Domaine Charles Frey, a pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture since 1996, boasts a rich family history dating back to the 18th century. The estate, now overseen by the third generation, Julien and Thiébaud, spans 14 hectares with diverse terroirs strategically divided into Grands Crus and hamlets in Dambach-la-Ville, Bas-Rhin.
Cultivating grape varieties like Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling in clay-limestone terroirs, the estate adheres to a philosophy rooted in organic and biodynamic principles.
Originally from Switzerland, the Frey family’s viticultural journey began modestly with 1.5 hectares in Dambach-la-Ville. In 1984, Dominique, Charles’s son, transitioned the estate to biodynamic agriculture, pioneering the movement in Alsace.
The family’s commitment to sustainability is exemplified by the construction of a bioclimatic wine storehouse in 2010, ensuring optimal conditions for maturing wines. Collaborations with a neighboring winegrower and the gradual involvement of Thiébaud underscore the estate’s dynamic evolution and enduring legacy.
