Georges Deschamps
Chablis, France
Having settled in Fontenay-près-Chablis in the 19th century, the Vrignaud family is one of the few remaining family-owned estates in Chablis. For decades they have been a beacon of precision and elegance, long championing organic practices and, since 2009, holding full organic certification.
‘A wine is born in the vineyard not in the cellar. Pressing, winemaking limiting inputs, the use of vats or barrels bring to light the grounds, the basements, the climate, the berries and the know-how of the Domain. This know-how and this constant attention nourish day by day a style of wines of Chablis. More than a style of wine is the culmination of a philosophy.’

The Vrignauds manage each parcel with meticulous care, guided by detailed study of Portlandian and Kimmeridgian soils. Chardonnay clones, selected through massal observation, are matched to the appropriate strata to ensure optimum ripeness and balance. Today, the estate spans 29 hectares, including prized holdings in Blanchot Grand Cru and the Fourchaume and Mont de Milieu Premiers Crus. Guillaume, fifth generation at the helm, created the Georges Deschamps range in tribute to his great-grandfather, who planted the family’s first vines in 1955. Following a purely natural approach in the cellar, these wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, offering a richer, textural expression alongside Vrignaud’s hallmark mineral elegance.
