Grande Cuvée 1531
Limoux, France
The name "1531" honours the historic discovery of sparkling wine fermentation by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire, marking the birth of the first bubbles in the world.
The multi-award winning Crémant Grande Cuvee 1531 from Sieur d’Arques is considered one of the best sparkling wines in the South of France and was named after the year in which bottle fermentation was invented or discovered in France.
The history of the Languedoc vineyard dates back to the 5th century BC, when the Greeks introduced the vine and its cultural practices. But it was in 1531 that the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire, a neighbouring town of Limoux, produced the first sparkling wine... one century before Dom Perignon.
The First Bubble of the World had just been born, thus marking the beginning of the fascinating history of the sparkling wines of Languedoc and more widely of the South of France.
